Antibacterial-Coated, Monofilament Polydioxanone (PDO) Synthetic Absorbable Suture
Mono-Dox® Plus sutures provide the same feel, handling and performance of our Mono-Dox product, but with the added assurance of antibacterial protection.
Mono-Dox® Plus sutures are coated with the proven antibacterial agent, chlorhexidine diacetate, that results in a zone of inhibition around the suture line. This agent is recognized as being effective against bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermis, MRSA and MRSE.
DESCRIPTION
Mono-Dox® Plus is an antibacterial-coated polydioxanone (PDO) monofilament synthetic absorbable, sterile surgical suture prepared from the polyester, poly(p-dioxanone). The suture is coated with chlorhexidine diacetate.
CHARACTERISTICS
Polydioxanone (PDO) exhibits:
• Extended holding strength
• Excellent handling, exceptional suppleness, and good knot security
• Non-wicking, which helps reduce bacterial migration along the suture line
• FDA-approved D&C Violet No. 2 color for better visibility during surgery
TENSILE STRENGTH
Subcutaneous tissue implantation studies in rats indicate Mono-Dox® Plus suture retains approximately 75% of initial tensile strength at 14 days, 66% at 28 days and 53% at 42 days post implantation.
ABSORPTION
Absorption begins as a loss of tensile strength without appreciable loss of mass. Absorption of Mono-Dox® Plus is essentially complete between 180 and 220 days.
